The Label Fable

THRILL JOCKEY A lot of other contenders spring to mind. I could be cool and cite New York’s 99 Records, for instance. Yet Thrill Jockey has been responsible for so much great music around the Tortoise axis, and I do not really know much about the label itself. So here is a test for the Internet: you let me know. All I will say is that any record by The And Cake and Tortoise is a must and that special mention should go to associated projects, especially the Isotope 217 LP and the Directions In Music project of Bundy K Brown. Also worthy of investigation is the Rome LP, mixing up Neu, Augustsu Pablo, Autechre, This Heat. So come on, tell me about Bettina Richards and Thrill Jockey. What’s the background?
